Promoting positive and genuine care for law enforcement families!

We are a 100% volunteer based organization that strives to help police officers, their families, and departments with the support they need and deserve in the areas of spiritual care, mental & emotional wellness, and family support. Strength & Shield is established by a 18+ year Police Officer / Law Enforcement Family / Sworn Uniformed Chaplain.

We have seen first hand, and listened to the needs and concerns of other police families. Our mission is based on a true understanding of the stresses, challenges, and obstacles faced during the career of a law enforcement officer.

We strive to address the necessity for sworn uniformed chaplaincy programs, direct peer support, family resources, social events, and focus on the difference positive department response can make in the lives of police families.

Our Beliefs

We would like to see officers and their families complete their careers with their spiritual, mental, and physical wellness fully intact. In a world that desperately needs good to counter evil, departments and society can not afford to lose good officers. It is imperative to invest in the whole officer in order for our current & retired officers, along with the next generation of police officers, to thrive in all areas of life.

Officers experience a wide range of traumas and critical incidents on a constant basis, which affects moral injury, levels of PTSD, anxiety, anger, bitterness, depression, mental & physical health, isolation, suicide, relationship issues & divorce, parenting strife and more.

The families of police officers do not go unscathed in this field. The family is a crucial element to the overall wellness of the police officer. Law enforcement family members experience much of the stressors and tribulations that occur in this field along with the officer, and are often times overlooked. For many, being a part of a law enforcement family carries a high level of anxiety, frustration, and isolation. We look to provide a collaboration of support pillars and confidential resources for the whole police family.

Testimonials

“Last year was by far the worst year of my life. I lost my 3-year-old daughter Evelynn.  My entire world was turned upside down, I still have not completely caught my footing.

Tim came to the hospital to visit my husband and I and help distract us from the pain. Evelynn had multiple surgeries, and was fighting for her life. It was hard as a parent to want nothing more than to relieve her of the pain, but be so powerless. Prayer was all we had. There were many times when Tim would pray over Eveylnn. Although at that point in time we were not regular church goers, hearing his prayers gave us faith.

Being in the hospital day and night with Evelynn meant we were unable to be with our other 4 children.  Tim and his wife brought my children food. My children were terrified, and unable to grasp what was going on with their baby sister. They were happy to receive treats from a fellow law enforcement family. Knowing that they had food in their bellies took one of our many worries from us.

Tim helped coordinate us with a therapist who came to be with us and talk us through what we were experiencing. My husband and I are both first responders. No scene no matter how gruesome, terrifying or sad could have prepared us to take our precious daughter off life support. During our time in the hospital, we were forced to make split second decisions in order to attempt to save her life. We were not thinking of ourselves, or our mental health as most first responders don’t, but Tim was.

Tim was in the room with us and prayed over Evelynn in her final moments.  There is no pain like losing your child. I could not bear to stay with Evelynn’s body after her heart stopped beating. The hospital made arrangements to transfer her to the morgue, and told us it could be hours before they got her. Every second near her body knowing it was my daughter’s empty shell and she was no longer was excruciatingly painful. It was too much of a barbaric reality for me to sustain. Tim offered to stay with Evelynn’s body until she was transferred. This helped to make me feel less guilt for leaving my child behind.

Tim and his family helped to coordinate funds to help us with the unexpected expenses which came from her time in the hospital and funeral expenses. No one expects to put their child to rest. After losing my baby, the last thing I wanted to do was think of how I was going to pay for all the hospital and funeral expenses. The cruel reality is without the support of others, my husband and I would have needed to work overtime while trying to mourn and deal with our derailed life. Our other children needed us, there is just no way we’d have been able to balance it all. There are no words to say how grateful and humbled I am by the support and care that Tim and his wife have showed us.”
